Men's Track & Field Ties Program-Best Finish at 2024 NE10 Indoor Championship

Boston, Mass. - With 81.50 points, the Adelphi University men's track and field program tied its best finish at the 2024 Northeast-10 Indoor Championship, placing fourth on Saturday inside the Track at New Balance. 

Four different individuals picked up podium finishes as 13 athletes overall scored points for the Panthers. 

For mid-distance, Diego Llanos placed fourth in the mile and sixth in the 3000 to pick up eight points and then had a hand in both relays that landed bronze medals at the event. .

After sending David Williams, Bryan Combary and Luke Sulli to the men's 60 hurdles, all three advanced to the finals and placed second, fourth and eighth, respectively. Williams's time of 8.15 is a new program record and earned him his first career silver medal. 

Andre Francis, who was recognized as the conference's Field Athlete of the Week several times, placed fifth and seventh in the weight throw and shotput, respectively to put points on the board for the Cats. In the former, he launched a 15.53m attempt on his final try, while putting a distance of 13.52m in the shotput. 

In the heptathlon, Bishopp Boutin and Matthew Wenz when 2-3 on the podium, while first year Sergio Talamo picked up four points after placing fifth. Boutin's total of 4,634 points was good enough for a silver medal after earning a top finish in the 60 meter dash (7.40), high jump (1.87m), 60 hurdles (8.47) and the 1000 meter run (2:54.65). 

A year ago, Wenz fell just beyond a spot on the podium, but this year he improved in the shotput (12.11m), 60 hurdles (9.00) and the pole vault (3.00m) to earn bronze with 4,495 points. 

Khalil Chester attempted to defend his long jump title from the 2023 Indoor Championship, but settled for second place after a 7.11m leap on his final trip down the runway, picking up eight points for the Cats. 

The track program will send a squad to the Fastrack Last Chance Meet at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island on Friday, Feb. 23.
