Hopkinton, NH - Under sunny skies, the Adelphi University cross country program competed at the 2024 Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday, ultimately placing fifth (men) and sixth (women).
Three different runners for the Panthers finished inside the top-20 for the men, but an impressive seven from Southern Connecticut fueled the Owls' top finish at the event.
Jake Orfano led the pack as 11th overall, clocking in at 25:46.17.
Diego Llanos and
Nicholas Nanan crossed the finish line at 15th and 18th, respectively just 17 seconds separating the pair.
The fourth best finisher for the Cats was Chris Leonard, who set a new personal best to place 29th in a time of 26:37.84. Rounding out the top-five was first year
Jack Riegger who placed 50th and shaved 36 seconds off his last 8K outing for a new PR.
On the women's side,
Lucia Kutner cut the tape for Adelphi first, with her fastest collegiate 6K time of 22:45.5 placing eighth overall.
Sumaira Mayan and
Maya Suarez were the next two in line, finishing at 18th and 29th, respectively.
Defending champion
Katherine Marsh led for majority of the race at a record pace, but was forced to withdraw due to an emergency.

The teams will take on the NCAA East Region on Saturday, November 9. The event is being hosted in Rochester, N.Y., by the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan.
