Charlotte, N.C. - As the leaves turn for the fall season up north, the Adelphi University cross country program headed south to race at the Royals XC Challenge on Friday, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte.
Lucia Kutner raced her second sub-19 minute 5K of her career, clock in at 18:59.80, which was good enough for 63rd overall in a field over 150 harriers. She led the Cats in the team's 14th place showing, which was highlighted by personal bests from
Maya Suarez and
Karen Jackson.
In the women's blue 5000 race,
Maggie Hannan and
Isabella Coppola both ran sub-22 as
Eva Gonzalez rounded out the trio that all collected PRs for their finishes.
On the men's side,
Jake Orfano was once again the top-runner for Adelphi, clocking in at 25:46.20 for a new career-mark and a 69th place showing overall. The top-five men in the race for the Panthers recorded personal-bests, including graduate student
Nicholas Nanan's 25:55 finish which saw him place 77th in the field.
In the Gold 8K race, Adelphi placed inside the top-10 at ninth - competing against 21 teams.
In the men's blue 8000 event,
Brady Carroll and Sam Gorelik both raced top-times for their careers including over a minute PR from the latter.
Adelphi heads back to New York to prepare for the Northeast-10 Conference Championship meet, scheduled for Sunday, October 27. This year's races will be hosted by Franklin Pierce University.
