New York, N.Y. - In addition to a record-breaking performance from
Amari Johnson, junior
Matthew Wenz posted a top-10 finish in his first full heptathlon this season as a handful of Adelphi track and field athletes competed at the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge this weekend.
Johnson has broken her 60 hurdle mark three times this season now, after posting an 8.69 finish to place second overall and 11th in a field of 30 competitots. According to the indoor performance list for Division II, that time puts her 17th this season among qualifying marks.
Wenz was in fourth place after the first day of heptathlon action, and ultimately finished in sixth overall with a score of 4,193. He placed fourth in the shotput and the high jump and nearly matched his 60 time (7.41) from earlier in the season. Teammate
Bishopp Boutin put together his first collegiate heptathlon, scoring 2,807 points with his best performance of sixth place was for the shotput (
10.62m).
Also for the men,
Andre Francis landed a new personal best in the weight throw at 16.90m, placing 14th in a field of 31 competitors, most of whom represented Division I institutions.
The team will be at the East Stroudsburg at the Deschriver Invite on Sunday, Feb. 4.
