Boston, Mass. - The Adelphi University track and field team returned to action for the first time in 2024, competing at the Suffolk University Icebreaker at the Track at New Balance.
The men put up some quality performances, including a new program record in the 60 hurdles.
David Williams placed third in his heat (behind two Division I competitors) and finished second in the finals of the 60 hurdles in a new program record time of 8.16. This ranks him 24th on the NCAA qualifying list and stands second in the East Region and NE10 conference. He breaks
Bryan Combary's 8.17 record that was set last month.
Bishopp Boutin was the top Division II rookie to compete in the high jump at the Suffolk Icebreaker - his height of 1.85 was good enough to place seventh overall. He was the second best D2 competitor and his height is tied for seventh best in NE10, but tops all freshman heights thus far in the season in the specialty.
Andre Francis made the final of the weight throw over the weekend, placing sixth overall (and first among Division II/NE10 competition) with a launch of 16.33m. Additionally he landed a 12.65m shotput, and was fourth among Division II competition.
On the women's side, several times and marks now stand among the ranks in the conference, with nearly a month to go before the 2024 Indoor Championships.
Katherine Marsh won the 3k race in a time of 10:26, beating out several competitors from Division I institutions - this time is third best in the conference. Earlier in the day she clocked in at 5:05 in the mile, which is the top time in the NE10 and the East Region so far this season.
Coming off a national semifinalist finish soccer season,
Carly Koprowski ran a 2:19.75 in the 800m race to place second overall. She was the fastest freshman in the event and topped several Division I competitors and her time is the third best in the region and NE10 behind the Marsh twins.
Valencia Beaubrun was the top Division II finisher in the long jump, putting up a 5.29m mark on her first attempt. She placed eighth overall and also set a new PR in the 200, clocking in at 26.27 to win her section.
First year
Imani Mudiay was the second Division II finisher in the triple jump. She placed seventh overall and was the top Division II freshman in the field with a distance of 10.81m in her first collegiate meet. This mark stands as the third best in the NE10 thus far in the season.
The team's next outing will be on Jan. 19 when they compete at the NYC Gotham Cup at the Ocean Breeze complex.
