North Dartmouth, Mass. - An Adelphi University cross country record that stood for 15 years fell on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational, as
Isabel Marsh and
Katherine Marsh both bettered the Brown and Gold's best prior 5k race time recorded by Ify Anene in 2008.
Isabel Marsh completed the 5k course in 17:31.97, while
Katherine Marsh clocked 17:47.82. Dating back to 2006, Anene's previous school record was 18:02, recorded on Oct. 18, 2008 at the UAlbany Invitational, meaning that the Marsh twins now hold Adelphi's No. 1 and No. 2 fastest times in the race for the Brown and Gold since full records have been kept.
Sunday's time also shattered
Isabel Marsh's previous personal best, 18:15.10, which she recorded last month in Adelphi's season-opener at its home course at Bethpage Polo at the Park.
For the meet,
Isabel Marsh's time placed her second in a field of 280 runners behind Boston University's Hannah Prosser, while
Katherine Marsh's time slotted her in seventh. The pair's results anchored the Panthers' 297 points, which was good enough to place ninth in a field of 37 teams across Divisions I, II and III.
Sumaira Mayan (47th),
Lucia Kutner (99th),
Maya Suarez (161th),
Madeline Gerby (177th) and
Caleigh Hopkins (181st) also chipped in for the overall result.
Adelphi's men clocked a 15th place finish in a field of 39 teams.
Nicholas Nanan was the top finisher on the 8k course, as he clocked 26:30.41 to place 75th in a field of more than 300 runners.
The Panthers will be back in action on Sept. 20 for the 49th annual Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
