Garden City, N.Y. - Field Hockey's Giana McKeough and swimming's Brian Klotsche have been named the Female and Male Scholar Athletes of the Year at the Adelphi athletic department end of year awards ceremony, held Monday, May 1.

McKeough has now twice been awarded the Northeast-10 Conference Elite 24 Award for possessing the highest GPA at the NE10 Championship site two years in a row. She boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA in the classroom which has led her to two NE10 Academic All-Conference selections as well as seven semesters in the excellence tier of the NE10 Academic Honor Roll.

"Work ethic and determination. Just like on the field, it is important to carry these traits into the classroom and never settle for anything less than the best, because at the end of the day, we are students before athletes," McKeough said upon being recognized.

On the field, the senior started all 22 games and was tied for the team lead in assists with nine. Additionally, the forward placed fourth on the team in shots with 37 and fifth in points with 15. Her leadership on and off the field helped lead the Panthers to the program's first ever NE10 championship in 2022.

Klotsche rounds out his Adelphi career by earning an NE10 Academic All-Conference spot himself. He adds to his trophy case after winning the NE10's Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence for the 2021-22 academic year. His 3.957 GPA as an accounting major bolstered him to win this award.

At the NE10 Championships in February, the graduate student earned his first-ever medal winning the silver with a career-best finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Klotsche was also consistently a member of the top relay team that consistently placed in the top three in either the 200 or 400 freestyle.

"Adelphi has given me so many opportunities in life to grow as a person, as a student and athlete. Along this journey I have made so many lifelong friends and memories, which I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life. I am forever grateful for my five years at Adelphi," Klotsche recounted.
