Colorado Springs, Colo. – Spanning the past week, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released several notable collegiate academic awards, including the Collegiate National Academic Squad, Collegiate National Scholars of Distinction, and the National Academic Team Awards. The Adelphi University field hockey team was included in each of the releases, with 12 student-athletes earning individual recognition.
Adelphi was one of 34 institutions represented on the Division II National Academic Squad, with 440 Division II student-athletes earning recognition nationwide. To be eligible, the NFHCA National Academic Squad honors undergraduate student-athletes who achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher during the fall semester and were nominated by their NFHCA member coaches.
Highlighting the honorees from Adelphi were seniors Kelly Johnson and Kameryn Mazzulli, along with freshmen Parris Duenas and Izzy Leclair.
The Scholars of Distinction award represents an upper echelon of academic achievement, as the honor celebrates student-athletes who earned a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher during the fall semester, nominated by their NFHCA member coaches.
In total, 144 exceptional undergraduate student-athletes were recognized, with Marta Alvarez Auguet, Caroline Beakes, Katie Dettore, Sydney Flores, and Daniella Lister included among the distinguished list.
For Beakes, it marks the third straight year the junior has earned this accomplishment. She accumulated a 3.948 GPA in the classroom while also setting a career-high 27-point season (eight goals and 11 assists).
Lastly, head coach Jess Mulhern's program was recognized as one of 19 Division II teams to receive the National Academic Team Award, given to programs that achieved an exceptional team grade-point average of 3.50 or higher during the fall semester of the current academic year.
