Garden City, N.Y. - Jess Mulhern '12 will step down as Adelphi University field hockey head coach, effective at the conclusion of February, it was announced by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation, Danny McCabe on Thursday.

Mulhern has resigned from her position to accept the head field hockey coach position at Division I Stonehill College.

"Having been a player and a coach in the Adelphi field hockey program, Coach Mulhern has given so much to this department," commented McCabe. "We thank her and wish her the best in this next stage of her career."

Mulhern returned to her alma mater in 2022 as the program's third head coach following an eight-year stint at Limestone University, where she served as an assistant before being elevated to the head coach role in 2017.

"Very few people get the opportunity to be the head coach at their alma mater, I am one of the lucky ones," remarked Mulhern.

"Adelphi gave me four unforgettable years as a student-athlete, competing in two sports I love, and I am so grateful to have spent four more leading this program from the sidelines. Representing my alma mater has been one of the greatest honors of my life."

In four seasons at the helm of the Panthers, Mulhern produced the program's first - and only - Northeast 10 Conference title in 2022 and went on to the NCAA tournament that same season. She's amassed over 40 wins in Garden City and reached the 100 win milestone in 2025, combining her 58 victories while with the Saints.

Since 2022, the Panthers have received 19 NE10 All-Conference selections and added Player of the Year honors this past season in Lana Mignon De Wet. She went on to earn Region Player of the Year honors and NFHCA All-American recognition to boot. In 2024, she oversaw two program all-time records be set, with Amanda Lee in goals (47) and Kylie Peregoy in defensive saves (27).

Mulhern excelled as a two-sport athlete at Adelphi from 2008-12. Not only was she a four-year starter on the field hockey team, Mulhern also was a three-time NE10 All-Conference runner in indoor track and field.

"As my time comes to a close at AU, I can reflect on two chapters I was blessed to live on Motamed Field- first as player, then as a coach. I'd like to thank those who paved the way- thank you to my college coaches, the teammates who played alongside me, the alumni who continue to show up and support, the student athletes I had the honor to coach and the assistant coaches who stood by my side."

"Thank you to the Adelphi Athletic Administration, Danny, Jess and Emily for trusting my leadership of the program and supporting me in this next chapter.  And to all the coaches in the department who have shared their wisdom and always look for ways to raise one another up. "
A national search will commence for Mulhern's replacement this semester.
