Springfield, Mass. - With a team-leading finish from
Lauren Toland in the pole vault, a group from Adelphi University track and field competed at the AIC Yellow Jacket Invite on Saturday, in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Toland was the lone competitor to clear 2.60 meters on her third and final attempt at the height. She was one of four in the competition, and one of two to reach the second height of the day.
In the 10,000 meter race,
Maggie Hannan clocked in at 44:20.81 to finish second with a new personal record to boot.
Jenna McBride placed second in her heat of the women's 100 in a time of 13.87 as teammate
Christina Gayle crossed the finish line in 13.25 to earn a spot inside the top-10. Gayle also placed first in her section of the 200, with a sub-27 second time to come in at 10th overall.
In her first collegiate outdoor 400,
Joanna Weber was responsible for a PR time of 1:04.40 to earn a seventh place finish as
Sumaira Mayan was fourth overall in the 800 at 2:25.63.
In the throws pit,
Kathryn Lynn placed seventh in her flight of the hammer and eighth overall with a launch of 31.64 as teammates
Maeve Duggan and
Alexa Boller put together top-15 finishes in the discus.
On the men's side,
Sharif Brown competed for the first time outdoors for the Brown and Gold, clocking in at 55.30 in the 400 to come in ninth overall. Also placing ninth in his respective event (and first in his heat) was
Sufiyan Sarguroh in the men's 800 with a time of 2:02.63.
Matthew Gemma and
Jake Orfano logged ninth and fourth place in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter race to hold down the mid-distance events for the Adelphi Panthers.
In the throws arena,
Andre Francis was sixth in both the hammer and discus, toppng out at 43.78 and 42.39, respectively.
The whole team will be back together next weekend when they head to The College of New Jersey for the TCNJ Invite.
