Mansfield, Mass. - With the conclusion of the 2022-23 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track and Field championship, the league office announced its major awards on Tuesday afternoon, which included
Katherine Marsh earning the title of Indoor Female Track Athlete of the Year.
This honor marks the second time a female Panther has earned a major award and third overall since joining the league in the 2009-2010 season. Victoria Major was the last individual to win in 2017 when she took home Rookie of the Year honors and Felipe Custodio won the same award for the men in the following season.
Marsh was part of three gold medal finishes and one silver at this year's conference championship, assisting in three relays and one individual crown. Her anchor leg of the Distance Medley Relay helped the Panthers run the sixth fastest time in championship history, at 12:16.96. She finished the 800-meter race in 2:16.60 and ran a leg of the first-place 4x800 relay (9:38.22), while also completing a leg of the second-place 4x400 relay (3:50.59).
The East Meadow, N.Y. native has put up top marks for the team in three different individual events this indoor season and also aided in success for three different relays.
This announcement breaks ahead of the 2023 Indoor Track and Field Championships, slated to begin Friday, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Marsh, alongside her sister Isabel, will compete in the preliminary round of the women's 800 meter race at approximately 4:40 p.m. in heats three and one, respectively.
