New Haven, Conn. - Top-five finishes highlighted an afternoon of action for the Adelphi University jumps and throws squads as a handful of athletes competed at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University on Friday.
Andre Francis put up a pair of top-10 finishes, placing ninth in the shotput and second in the weight throw. His distance of 15.70 meters falls short of his career-best (16.48) which he landed at the Fastrack Opener to start the season.
Also finishing in the top 10 were
David Williams and
Bryan Combary, both in the 55 hurdles. Williams finished fourth in the finals, but his prelims time of 7.66 stands as a new career-best in the event. Combary, who hit a provisional mark last week was sixth overall in a time of 7.89, but posted a 7.79 clocking in the preliminary heat.
For the women, last week's Northeast-10 Field Athlete of the Week,
Valencia Beaubrun, landed all five attempts in the long jump, with her farthest and best distance of 5.35 putting her third among the competition. Rookie
Leah Comeroski also placed in the top-10, with her fifth and final jump of 5.22 placing her seventh. She also put up a distance of 9.94 in the triple jump to finish 10th overall.
Newcomer
Kayla Esposito also competed in the long jump, but excelled in the triple jump, where her first attempt of 10.53 was good enough to finish fifth in the field.
Adelphi track and field will open the new year at the Suffolk University Icebreaker on Jan. 13 as their next team event.
