Garden City, N.Y. - With a full slab of All-Region awards being handed out ahead of the team's appearance at the national semifinals, Adelphi University women's soccer senior defender
Morgan Salmon earned a First Team All-Region citation from two leading organizations.
The now-reigning NE10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, Salmon was selected to both the United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA All-East Region First Team.
While her work as the team's lead center back has yielded thirteen clean sheets to-date, Salmon's 3.828 cumulative grade-point average landed the captain on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as well.
In only her second taste of NCAA Tournament competition, Salmon's defensive unit has let up only one goal in nearly 400 minutes of work.
Sophomore forward
Gia Mandile and freshman midfielder
Kayleigh Goodrich joined Salmon among the East's elite on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team.
Now eligible for All-America consideration, Mandile and Goodrich stabilized an attack that has averaged close to two goals per game, in the absence of 2022 NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year
Madison Apicella -- who claimed a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team.
Mandile entered into the starting line-up for the stretch run of the 2023 campaign and found the net almost instantly, scoring five goals in her first six starts following Apicella's injury. A career-high eight goals and 20 points have stood up among the league's leaders, placing her in the Top 5 in both categories.
A late addition to the roster in 2023, Goodrich broke in as the team's starting central forward, and also earned mention on the D2CCA All-Region Second Team.
Still in the midst of her first collegiate season, Goodrich has made for one of the toughest attacking players to beat off the dribble. Her five assists are currently tied for the team lead, and 17 points are second-most behind her fellow United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Region selection (Mandile).
Speaking of hard to beat,
Krista Aliscio set a school record on Sunday with her 13th shutout of the year -- surpassing
Anne Marie Ulliac's previous single-season mark of 12 in 2015.
Named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team, Aliscio made a career-high 12 saves in last week's NCAA Division II East Region Championship against No. 1Â The College of Saint Rose, ultimately helping the 'Cats to their first regional title since 2004. Her two saves in the shootout brought aboutÂ
Kayla Mushorn's eventual winner in the final round of penalties.Â
In addition to playing side-by-side with her classmate in Salmon, Mushorn boasts a 3.754 grade-point average in the same major study of Nursing and made her way onto the CSC Academic All-District Team.
The Panthers will play for a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championship this Thursday (Dec. 7), when they meet No. 3 seed and Central Region champion Washburn University in the national semifinals at 2 p.m. at the Sportsplex at Matthews in Matthews, N.C.
