Garden City, N.Y. – Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team kicked off their 2026 campaign at home on Friday night, taking on Wilmington (Del.).

Series History:

• Adelphi (0-0-1, 0-0 NE10) moves to 4-4-1 against the Wildcats since 2014. The draw snaps a three-game losing streak for the Panthers against the Wildcats. The last matchup was a 2-1 Wilmington victory in the 2025 season opener.

Highlights:

• Kayleigh Goodrich scored her first goal of the season and recorded a team-high nine shots.
• Emma Raptis and Julianna Violi each assisted on Goodrich's goal.
• Maddy Catalanotti made two saves.
• Gladys Sanchez, Adela Odindo, Gia Cimino, Giavanna Meservy, Mia Leggio, Teagan Caviness and Catalanotti all made their Adelphi debuts.

How It Happened:

• Adelphi dominated possession in the first half and outshot Wilmington, 6-3.
• Goodrich had an excellent chance with a backheel right in front of the goal line but was stopped by the Wildcat keeper.
• The Panthers put pressure on Wilmington in the final minutes of the period, but the teams went into the break in a scoreless tie.
• Once again in the second half, Adelphi controlled the flow of the game, putting Wilmington back on its heels.
• The Wildcats caught a break in the 61st minute when an errant pass found Amelia Aquino outside the box. Aquino fired a rocket that could not be saved to give the road team a 1-0 lead.
• Time was not on Adelphi's side as every opportunity was seemingly stopped by Wilmington.
• With less than five minutes left, that finally changed. A beautiful cross into the box from Raptis found captain Goodrich and, finally, on her ninth shot of the game, she found the back of the net with a perfectly placed left-footed shot.
• Adelphi threatened again in the final minutes, but the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
