Goodrich Nets Hat Trick as Women's Soccer Bests Monroe

Garden City, N.Y. – Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team hosted newly Division II Monroe on Friday afternoon, taking down the Mustangs, 3-2.

  • This was the first-ever matchup between Adelphi (2-0-1, 0-0-0 NE10) and Monroe.

How It Happened:

  • Monroe set the pace of the game early on, going uptempo and trying to send through balls between Adelphi's center backs.
  • After four offsides calls, the fifth time was the charm for the Mustangs as a nice pass set Katarzyna Musialowska free for the opening goal of the game.
  • Although trailing early, the Panthers stuck with their game plan and, less than five minutes later, Goodrich found the equalizer.
  • Meservy stole the ball from a Mustang defender and found Cataldo, who put a pass right on the captain's foot, and the ball found the back of the net.
  • After a handful of substitutions, the half went on with Adelphi controlling possession and pushing into Monroe's half.
  • The home team finally came through with the lead after Carmen Reinerink set a perfect ball over the heads of the Mustang defense and to Goodrich. Goodrich's initial shot was stopped, but she corralled the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net for an Adelphi lead, 2-1, heading into halftime.
  • Out of the break, Goodrich almost immediately put the Panthers up two after some crisp passing from Sanchez and Raptis.
  • Goodrich and the Panthers continued to search for their elusive fourth goal, taking 19 shots in the final 44 minutes, but did not find it.
  • The Mustangs again slipped by the Panther defense in the 88th minute to cut their deficit to one.
  • Monroe looked for a late draw, but the defense, led by Reinerink, did not budge and Adelphi took home a 3-2 victory.

  • The Adelphi women's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday when it plays its first road game against Holy Family at 4 p.m.
