Indoor Track and Field Opens Season in Staten Island

Staten Island, NY - Highlighted by two NCAA provisional marks, the Adelphi University Indoor track and field program kicked off the 2023-24 campaign at the Fastrack Season Opener on Friday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. 

Amari Johnson and Bryan Combary both put up NCAA Division II marks at the meet, with finals times of 8.71 and 8.17, respectively in the 60 high hurdles event. Johnson shaved .03 off her personal best to land a qualifying time as Combary ran .30 better than his best to open the season. Johnson's time, placed her first in the finals and both also set a new school record in the specialty. 

Several other top finishes came from the women's side, as Lindsey Wilson took first in the high jump at 1.60m and Vlencia Beaubrun lept 5.47m in the long jump to earn gold. Isabel and Katherine Marsh posted a 1-2 finish in the 500, finishing just .02 seconds apart. 

A launch of 16.48m in the weight throw saw Andre Francis finish second with his prior best mark only standing at 15.58m. Also for the men, Nicholas Nanan took silver in the 3000 meter race, with a 13 second PR which had him cross the finish line in 8:47.52. 

The. jumps and throws athletes will compete at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge next weekend (Dec. 8-9), as the rest of the squad will return to action following the new year.
