Marsh, Mayan Clock Top 5 Finishes for Cross Country at Bruce Kirsch Cup

Hopkinton, N.H. - The Adelphi University cross country team once again got two Top 5 finishes on the women's side at the annual Bruce Kirsch Cup on Friday, but instead of Isabel Marsh and Katherine Marsh going No. 1 and No. 2 for the Brown and Gold, it was junior Sumaira Mayan who clocked in as Adelphi's second finisher.

Mayan not only clocked her second Top 5 finish of the season (adding to her fifth-place result at Adelphi's season opener) but her 18:56.8 final time was also a personal best by nearly nine seconds.

It's the second time this year that Mayan finished as AU's second runner behind Isabel Marsh with Katherine Marsh out of action. Once again the 'Cats top finisher, Isabel Marsh clocked in at 18:10.4 to finish second overall in the field of more than 70 runners, nearly 15 seconds behind race winner Ava Mahoney of Merrimack College.

Lucia Kutner, who placed 15th, just barely missed out on her own 5k best, as her time of 20:07.4 was just seven tenths of a second behind her personal best.

As a team, the Adelphi women placed third behind Merrimack, Adelphi's former NE10 foe that now competes in Division I, and Saint Michael's College. The men's squad placed fourth, as Nicholas Nanan and Jake Orfano finished within eight seconds of each other in 18th and 20th place, respectively.

Adelphi's regular season culminates next Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, to be hosted by American International College in Westfield, Mass.
