Track and Field Returns in 2023 to Spartan Regional Preview

1/14/2023 1:09:00 PM

Staten Island, N.Y. - Headlined by another standout performance by Kyria Moore, the Adelphi University track and field programs returned to action on Friday at the Spartan Regional Preview, hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College.

Moore, put up Adelphi-best numbers in both the weight throw and shotput events, for the second meet in a row. Her launch of 12.47m in the shotput extended her Panther record she set in December to place third overall. Her weight throw performance moves her up to no. 4 overall in NCAA Division II after an attempt landed 19.19m. That stands as a new Adelphi record, qualifies her for NCAAs (mark is set at 17.00m) and ranks her 25th on the all-divisions list.

Also in the throws pit, newcomer Alexa Boller put up a 10.59 launch in the weight throw to finish behind returner Kathryn Lynn who landed a 12.80m attempt to be in the top-20 of the competition.

On the track, all distance ladies landed PR times with Katherine Marsh leading the way in the mile with a 5:07.23 time to place second in the field. Grace Minikel clocked in at 5:21.80 to be in the top-10 and Rachel Tucci was a 5:30.85 time to finish 15th.

Isabel Marsh was responsible for a career-best 1000m race in which she placed fourth overall, clocking in at 3:03.65.

The quartet of Tucci, K. Marsh, Minikel, and I. Marsh ran the fastest time in the league for the Distance Medley Relay at the Spartan Invite, in a time of 12:39.95. Good enough for second overall behind a team from Rider, the group's effort is both an IC4A/ECAC and NCAA Division II provisional mark.

On the men's side, Bryan Combary placed fifth in the 60 hurdles with a personal best time of 8.51 and was closely followed by teammate Luke Sulli who raced to a 8.72 finish too see himself place seventh in the field.

It was defending champion in the outdoor steeplechase Matthew Gemma who was responsible for a 10-second PR in the mile, who ran in a time of 4:30.49 to finish 16th. Through the first 200 he was sitting at 7th and maintained a spot in 11th prior to the end result.

Adelphi's track and field program will make its first appearance at The Armory on Jan. 20 when they compete at the Ramapo College Invite.
