Cross Country Returns, Races at UMass Dartmouth Invite

North Dartmouth, Mass. - The Adelphi University cross country program returned to action this weekend, competing at the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational. 

Split into three different races, the Panthers placed sixth (out of 14) in the men's JV Team Race, 16th (out of 36) in the men's Varsity Race and the women placed just outside the top-10 to come in 11th out of 39 teams. 

Finishing first for the women was Katherine Marsh, who ran a new career-best time of 18:45.2 in the 5K event to place 27th overall. Her sister was the next to cross the tape for the Brown and Gold, posting a race time of `9:01.2 with a 6:07.3 average mile. Rounding out the top three for Adelphi was Grace Minikel who clocked in at 19:42.5 for a top-100 spot as the field saw nearly 300 competitors on the course. 

The men's varsity five mile run had three individuals in the top-100 with Diego Llanos leading the way with a 33rd place effort in a time of 25:36.0. Coming in 82nd overall was Tom Roulette who averaged a 5:21.4 mile to clock in at 26:46.7 and rounding out the group inside 100 was Adam Zelin at 5:24 pace to land 99th. 

The men's "JV" event was won by UMass Lowell who had the first seven finishers of the race, but it was Gabe Silva leading the charge for Adelphi as he placed 27th in a time of 27:52.8. Just short of besting Silva, Matthew Paolo put up a 5:34.9 pace to come in two spots later as first year Brady Carroll rounded out the top three in a time of 28:50.2.

Adelphi will be back on the road as a team next weekend when they attend the Paul Short Cross Country Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. The team has not raced at this event since 2018, when Nicole Julian finished 12th for the women and then freshman Rouletter was the was the Brown and Gold's first finisher at 71st.
