West Long Branch, NJ - Finally kicking off the 2022 outdoor season as a team, the Adelphi University men's and women's track and field programs competed at the 26th Annual Monmouth University Season Opener over the weekend.
Notable finishes on the women's side include
Katherine Marsh's fifth place showing in the 800 meter race, coming in just over five seconds behind the top competitor at 2:23.66. She ran the third leg of the women's 4x400 relay, alongside
Gabrielle Griffin,
Gabrielle Buissereth and
Alexis Roth to help the quartet win in a time of 4:02.41, which is currently the second best time in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Isabel Marsh raced to 10th place in the 1500 meter event, as the fastest non-Division I competitor with a time of 4:51.21 for a new career-best mark. Rookie
Amari Johnson completed her first outdoor 100 hurdles race in a time of 15.03 seconds, to be the fastest Division II finisher for fifth overall.
On the men's side, Adelphi's 4x400 relay teams secured third and fourth place, finishing just one second apart.
Andre Francis threw 39.89m (to place 12th) in the discus and 40.89m in the hammer throw to finish in the top-10. His toss in the discus lands as the top rookie (7th overall) in the NE10 after this weekend and his hammer sees him sixth overall among league competition.
Luke Sulli and
Bryan Combary finished back-to-back in the 110 hurdles, with times of 15.83 and 15.91, respectively. Sulli's time earned him fifth place and stands as the second fastest time in the NE10 and the quickest race in the specialty this weekend.
Nicholas Nanan ran his first 10,000 meter race in a Panther uniform in West Long Branch, topping out at 33:37.65 for a 12th place overall finish.
Adelphi track and field will be back in action this weekend with the women's 10k at the Ramapo Invite on Friday, Apr. 1 as the full team will compete at either TCNJ or the Sam Howell invite, based on meet acceptance.
