Farmingdale, N.Y. - With top three finishers in both the women's and men's races, the Adelphi University cross country programs placed second and third, respectively, on Friday afternoon at the season opening Panther XC Invite.
For the women, Southern Connecticut took the top spot as a team as Kutztown placed first for the men. Andrew Sulon of the Golden Bears took the individual title after pacing himself to a 5:09 mile as the women were led by Katie Mohr of Molloy.
The women were led by Katherine and
Isabel Marsh in second and third, just ten seconds apart, as
Grace Minikel rounded out Adelphi's top-three in eighth overall. Minikel, the programs' reigning individual champion (from 2019) clocked in at 20:22.50 to kick off the 2021 season. The Marsh sisters both bested their 2019 finishes and time for the 5K race at Bethpage State Park.
Rookie
Juliet Felice ran her first collegiate race to a 15th-place finish, earning points for her team after a 21:15.30 performance.
On the men's side, sophomore
Adam Zelin, who has yet to compete collegiately in an 8K, placed third overall in the field of 144 competitors, in a time of 26:14.00. Gabe Silva and
Nicholas Nanan were the second and third Panther harriers to cross the finish line, for 14th and 15th, respectively and were closely followed by
Thomas Roulette and Matt Gemma who crossed inside the top-20.
Both squads are back in action on Saturday, September 11 when they race at the Shacklette Invite, hosted by Saint Anselm College. The women's race is set for 10:00 a.m. with the men's race to follow an hour later.
