Manchester, NH - After opening the 2021 season on their home course, the Adelphi University men's and women's cross country programs headed north to compete at the 39th Annual Shacklette Invitational.
The Shacklette Invitational, one of the oldest cross country meets in the region, is a tribute to the spirit of the man from which it derives its name, and a celebration of the culture, community, and lifestyle that is encompassed in the world of the modern runner.
With five finishers in the top-20, the men's team raced to a second place finish, led by junior Gabe Silva who placed ninth overall. Crossing the tape first for Adelphi, Silva completed the 8k course in 28:08 at a 5:40 pace.
Nicholas Nanan,
Matthew Gemma and
Diego Llanos all crossed within seconds of each other to take 14th, 16th and 17th, respectively helping the Panthers earn points.
Rounding out the top-five for the men was
Thomas Roulette in 28:48.1.
Isabel Marsh was the fastest finisher on the women's side, completing the 6K course in 25:57.5 for 26th overall.
Juliet Felice and
Grace Minikel crossed the finish line seconds apart, with Felice posting a time of 26:50.5, averaging 7:12 per mile. The rest of the freshman all ran personal bests in their first outing running this distance of 3.73M.
Adelphi will take a break next weekend and return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25 when they race at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan.
