Women's Cross Country Posts Top 10 Finish at Ted Owen Invitational

New Britain, Conn. - The Adelphi University cross country teams returned to action Saturday, competing at the 17th Annual Ted Owen Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State University.

Placing in the Top 10 was the women's squad, which finished fifth out of 19 teams with 127 points, posting an average time of 19:30. First to cross this time for the Panthers was Katherine Marsh, who clocked in at 19:15.2 and was followed closely by Grace Minikel two seconds later, placing 16th and 18th, respectively. 

In a field of 207 competitors, the third to finish was Nicole Julian, who landed in the Top 25 with an average mile time of 6:16.9. Maeve Smith and Jasmine Meerdink rounded out the top-five, with Smith breaking the tape in a time of 19:42.2, which marked a career-best time for the rookie. Meerdink placed 40th overall, also clocking a season-best at the Stanley Quarter Park course. 

On the men's side, Thomas Roulette was the first to finish for the Brown and Gold, for the third-straight meet, in a time of 27:55.2, placing 37th overall. Gabriel Silva and Ronan Smith were the next two Panthers to cross, as Silva bested his time from a week ago and placed 37th. The team as a whole finished 13th in a field of 19 teams, as they averaged 29:24 for the 8k course. 

Rounding out the top-five were Steven Mosher and Matthew Gemma, with the former landing within the Top 100 (of 197 runners) and the latter cutting the tape in 30:43.

The programs will have a break in action, as the cross country and track and field programs contribute their time at the third-annual Panthers for a Cause 5K, hosted on the campus of Adelphi University on Saturday, Oct. 5. They return to official action on Friday, Oct. 11 at the Royals XC Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte.
