Jamesville, N.Y. – Championship season is underway for the fall sports with the Adelphi University cross country program taking part in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship meet Sunday afternoon, hosted by Le Moyne College. The men's team fell short of their Coaches' Poll expectations with a tenth place finish while the women also ended up one spot below the pre-championship poll, locking in a fourth place standing.
Highlighting the women's side was a Second Team All-Conference performance from senior
Nicole Julian, who clocked in at 24:52.9 for the 6k race. She improved from a 12th-place showing at last year's championship, placing tenth overall this year. The next three to cross the finish line were rookies
Grace Minikel,
Katherine Marsh and
Maeve Smith, who finished 28th, 31st, and 32nd respectively, separated by 10 seconds.
Rounding out the top-five for Adelphi's female contingent was freshman
Rachel Tucci, who ran a season-best in the 6k, completing the race in 26:25.9 to sit just inside the top-50 at 49th.
Ronan Smith was the top-harrier for the Panthers in the men's 8k race, placing 63rd overall in a time of 30:07.3.
Thomas Roulette and
Matthew Gemma crossed with identical times, at 30:56.4 to be two finishers inside the top-85 in a field at 146 competitors.
Just seconds behind the duo,
Steven Mosher and
Gabriel Silva rounded out Adelphi's top-five to place 85th and 95ht, respectively.
Stonehill captured its 11
th straight NE10 title and 18
th overall on the women's side as American International out raced Southern Connecticut on the men's side to earn its first title since they won three straight from 2014-16, taking it with 39 points as all five runners placed in the top 20.
The programs will wait to compete at the Division II Regional Championships scheduled for Saturday, November 9. This year's race, which was hosted by Adelphi for the first time in 2018, will be held at the Belmont Plateau Park in Philadelphia, Pa. and hosted by Jefferson University.
