Gilbert, Ariz. - The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) has recognized 66 student-athletes as 2017 Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division II Scholars of Distinction for academic excellence, and among them were two freshmen on the Adelphi University field hockey team,
Alexandra Kanapes and
Lauren Parrinello.
Student-athletes chosen to represent their school were required to have a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher after the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. As freshmen, Parrinello finished her first collegiate semester with a 4.0 GPA, while Kanapes had a mark of 3.955. The field hockey team as a whole posted the fourth-best GPA in Division II in the fall, a mark of 3.61, which earned the squad recognition with the Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division II National Academic Team Award.
