Garden City, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University men's tennis team used a sweep in singles to defeat the American International College Yello Jackets in their final regular season home match this afternoon, 8-1. Prior to the start of the match, the team honored its two graduating seniors,
Sander Brenner and
Sebastian Zapata.
No. 2 and No. 3 doubles went decidedly in favor of the Panthers (8-7, 7-2 NE-10) as
Roey Heymann and
Connor Dove and Zapata and
Daniel Khodosh dropped just one game combined at the two flights. No. 1 doubles was a different affair, as Brenner and
Uladzislau Litvinchuk had their hands full with Ricardo Martinez and James Worrall. In the end, it was the Yellow Jacket (0-9, 0-8 NE-10) duo that posted the victory, securing a late break to win 8-6.
However, singles was all Adelphi, as five out of the six matches went the Panthers' way in two sets. Heymann posted a double bagel at No. 4, as Zapata and
Christopher Buckley won by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores and
Connor Dove dropped just two games. At the top flight, Litvinchuk rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Martinez in a match tiebreak, 3-6, 6-4 10-6.
The Panthers are back in action next Saturday, April 23 when they travel to Stonehill College for their regular season finale at 12 pm.
NOTES
- Litvinchuk has won his last four singles matches and is 2-0 in match tiebreaks this year.
- Khodosh and Zapata won together for the first time this season.
