Flushing, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University men's tennis team dropped its fourth straight match on Friday, as they fell by an 8-1 score on the road to the regional power Knights of Queens College.
Matteo Cannavera and
Uladzislau Litvinchuk gave the Panthers (2-4) their first point on the day in doubles, as they edged Sharvill Mawghre and Roman Laga in a tiebreak at No. 1 doubles 9-7 to take the set by a 9-8 decision. However, the other two doubles flights both went the way of the Knights (6-2) despite the Brown and Gold's best efforts, with
Roey Heymann and
Sebastian Zapata falling by an 8-6 decision at No. 2 and
Sander Brenner and
Connor Dove falling 8-4 at No. 3.
The Kings put the match away in singles as they took all six flights, with four coming in straight sets. Heymann battled from first point to last at No. 5 singles for the Brown and Gold, as he split tiebreak sets with Camilo Arias before falling in a marathon match tiebreak, 12-10. Also falling in three sets was Cannavera at No. 1, as he took the first 6-1, but fell in three, 6-1, 3-6, 2-6.
The Panthers return to Northeast-10 play tomorrow, March 19, with a match against the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's.
NOTES- The Panthers were tabbed No. 2 in the NE-10 Coaches' Poll and return to NE-10 play for the reast of the season beginning on Saturday.
