Men's Tennis Stays Perfect in NE-10 Play, Defeats SNHU 9-0

Panthers improve to 5-0 in conference play.

Garden City, N.Y. - In its first outdoor match of the spring season, the Adelphi University men's tennis team picked up its third 9-0 decision in conference play this season by defeating the visiting Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday afternoon. En route to their third consecutive win, the Panthers swept doubles play and won all six singles matches in straight sets to take the victory against the defending NE-10 tournament champions.

Adelphi (5-3, 5-0 NE-10) came out on the winning end of three tight doubles matches to move ahead on the afternoon. Justin Vijungco and Sebastian Zapata recorded an 8-3 win at third flight to get things started, before Sander Brenner and Uladzislau Litvinchuk followed with an 8-4 win at No. 2. To close out doubles play, Matteo Cannavera and Chiwete Njokanma closed out a close 8-5 set against Emerson Kelby and Xavier Aubron to send Adelphi into doubles play leading 3-0.

Litvinchuk led the way for Adelphi in singles, recording a double bagel victory at No. 2 over Kelby. Both Cannavera and Zapata dropped just three games at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, while Njokanman and Brenner picked up 6-3, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-0 wins at the third and fourth spots. To close things out, Vijungco dropped just one game in his eight-game pro set at No. 6 singles.

"I'm very proud of the squad today as everyone stayed focused in some difficult outdoor conditions in our first outdoor match of the season," Head Coach Michael Misiti stated. "It was extremely cold and windy, but we managed to make it through. Southern New Hampshire University are the defending champions of the Northeast-10, so we are happy to get through against a side that is always strong. We have a decisive match this Friday against Merrimack in which we need to prepare ourselves both mentally and physically for a tough match."
