Women's Soccer Claims Four Of Five Major NE-10 Awards; Seven Named All-Conference

Full Release
Mansfield, Mass. – Four major awards led the way for the Adelphi University women's soccer program as seven individuals were named Northeast-10 All-Conference selections earlier today.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa earned Coach of the Year in her first season along with Player of the Year going to Laura Gomez, Taylor Groth being tabbed Defensive Player of the Year and Anne Marie Ulliac taking home Goalkeeper of the Year. Joining the student-athlete trio on the All-Conference First Team were Victoria Antonino and Taylor Salmon while Morgan Santoro earned placement on the Second Team and Kelsey Malles landed on the Third Team.

DeRosa is in her first year at the helm of the Panthers, leading the team to the NE-10 regular season title as well as the top seed in the Championship Tournament with a 12-0-2 league record. The Brown and Gold have moved to 15-2-2 on the season after winning 10 straight including Tuesday's 1-0 Quarterfinal victory against Southern Connecticut State. DeRosa joins former head coaches Chris Armas (NE-10) and Rich IIsley (ECC) to win the award.

In her second year as a Panther, Gomez leads the team in points (24), goals (10), and game-winners (5) while sharing the team-best in assists (4). All four categories place her among the top-10 in the conference, including a four-way tie for goals. The junior becomes the first NE-10 Player of the Year in the program's history and is the first to win the award since Josephine Coiro ('05) was named the ECC Player of the Year in 2004. Gomez has scored the second goal in two different 2-1 victories for Adelphi this year, the first on Wednesday, September 16 against New Haven followed by a Tuesday, October 20 win against Pace.

Groth becomes the first ever Defensive Player of the Year recipient in team history after helping the team to a 0.57 goals-against-average and holding opponents to just 8.1 shots per-game. This marks the Setauket native's first mention on the All-Conference list since she was named to the Second Team and All-Rookie squad during her freshman campaign of 2012. The defender also has a goal to her credit this season, scoring the first tally in a 3-0 win against Saint Michael's on Saturday, September 19.

For the third straight season, Adelphi welcomes the trophy for Goalkeeper of the Year as Ulliac keeps the streak going that was started by Sam Whitney ('15) with back-to-back honors. The rookie from Canada has posted 10 shutouts thus far this season while starting in every contest to post a 0.58 goals-against-average. Ulliac has made 61 saves in 19 contests that includes a season-high seven against Pace while posting six stops in three other matches.

Posting 10 points behind four goals and two assists from the midfield, Antonino earns placement on the First Team after earning All-Rookie honors in 2013. Two of her goals came during a 2-0 win at American International on Friday, October 23 while her most recent assist was during this past Tuesday's victory against Southern Connecticut State in the Quarterfinal round.

Elevating from a Second Team selection last year, Salmon earns placed on the First Team as a key member of the backline while also being the primary free-kick and corner kick taker. Joining Groth and Ulliac to hold opponents to a .072 shot percentage, the senior also tallied eight points behind three goals and two assists. Salmon posted a goal and an assist during a 4-2 win at Le Moyne on Saturday, October 10 to highlight her offensive output.

Santoro marks the lone representative on the Second Team in her first year wearing the Brown and Gold. The junior midfielder has played in 18 games while making 13 starts to post four goals and two assists towards 10 points. After scoring two goals in a 3-0 win at Southern Connecticut on Tuesday, October 10, Santoro followed up in her next appearance with the game-winner during the 86th minute of a 1-0 win against then-ranked No. 10 Saint Rose.

Malles represents the Panthers on the Third Team as she finished second on the team and tied for 10th in the NE-10 with 18 points despite starting just three contests. Her seven goals also were second best on the team while also placing her in an eight-way tie among the league leaders. Three of her seven goals came in one 20-minute span as she helped the Panthers to a 6-2 victory against UNC Pembroke in the second game of the year. She also scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win against Bentley on Saturday, October 3.

The Panthers return to action this evening with a 7:00 pm NE-10 Semifinal contest against Merrimack on Motamed Field. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw back on Wednesday, September 30.
