Garden City, N.Y. - Courtesy of an at-large bid, the Adelphi University men's tennis team was awarded the #6 seed in the NCAA East Regional and will face off against the #3 seeded Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in the first round of the tournament on May 3. Adelphi returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010, in a bracket that also features the hosts and second-seeded Bears of NYIT and the seventh-seeded Knights of Queens College.
The men's team put together an 11-7 overall record, going 11-3 after starting the year 0-4. Against NCAA Division II opposition, the Panthers went 11-5. Courtesy of an 8-2 Northeast-10 Conference record and as a result of a tiebreaker, the Panthers earned the #4 seed in the conference tournament. The Panthers defeated the #5 seeded Stonehill College Skyhawks, 5-2 in the first round, before falling to top-seeded Merrimack, 5-1 in the semifinals. The Panthers will face off against the #3 seeded Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in a first round match hosted by NYIT. The Bears received the #2 seed, but are the highest seed in the second East Region bracket. The Panthers closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a 6-0 loss to the Chestnut Hill Griffins, and will be looking to reverse that result in NCAA action. The other match in the second regional bracket features an East Coast Conference meeting between the host Bears and the Queens Knights, with the winners of the two matches to face off on May 4.
The opposing East Regional bracket, which will take place on May 5-6, features a first round matchup between two other Northeast-10 teams in Merrimack (No. 5) and Southern New Hampshire (No. 4), with the winner to face the top-seeded Concordia College Clippers.
