Box Score Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University women's basketball team played host to the Chargers of the University of New Haven on Tuesday evening in the Center for Recreation and Sport. Despite holding a 15-point lead at halftime, the Panthers were unable to record a win on Senior Night as they fell by an 85-81 score. With the loss, Adelphi drops to 20-6 overall and 14-6 in the Northeast-10 while New Haven improves to 18-8 and 13-7 in the conference. The Brown and Gold draw the #1 seed in the Southwest Division, as the Blue and White sit at #2.
Kelly Mannix led four Panthers in double figures with 20 points, going 6-11 from the floor and 4-7 from behind the arc.
Jessica Kitrys totaled 19 points while
Jenna Halaby added 16 of her own.
Sade Jackson rounded out the double-digit scoring with 15 points, and recorded a double-double as she dished out 14 assists. For the Chargers, Aquillin Hayes led all scorers with 27 points.
Mannix opened the scoring with a triple on the Brown and Gold's first possession, and
Jenna Halaby drained two free throws to give the Panthers a 5-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. Jackson found Kitrys on the inside on back-to-back possessions to put the Panthers up by nine before the Chargers managed to score.
Kitrys put up a three to give the Panthers a double digit lead, and she drained another to put Adelphi up 15-5 with 16:33 left in the half. The Panthers continued to hold a two-digit advantage, and another triple from Mannix put the hosts out in front, 22-7, with 13 minutes remaining.
Back-to-back buckets by the Chargers forced the Panthers into a timeout, but the visitors' momentum continued as they cut the Brown and Gold's lead to 28-17 with 7:38 to play. The back and forth play continued as the Southwest Division's top two teams traded points, and the Panthers continued to hold an 11-point lead for the majority of the remaining minutes.
Jackson drained a pair at the charity stripe with 3:57 to go, and a Halaby layup on the next possession gave the home team a 38-23 lead. From there, the Blue and Gold responded with a 9-6 run to cut the lead to 12 points, 44-32. At the buzzer, however, Jackson drained a three from well behind the arc to put Adelphi in the locker room with a 47-32 lead.
Over the first three minutes of the second half, the Chargers put together an 8-2 run which cut Adelphi's lead to single digits, 49-40. Mannix answered as she drained a three from dead center to put the home team back on top by double figures, 52-40, but the Chargers would continue to chip away at the Adelphi lead.
The Chargers pulled within seven, 55-48, with just under 14 minutes to play, but another Mannix triple from the right corner again put Adelphi ahead by 10. The two teams continued to trade points, before New Haven unleashed a scoring run and pulled within three at the 11 minute mark.
The Blue and White took their first lead behind a layup from Hayes at the 9:10 mark, before Mannix hit a pair from the free throw line to give her team the lead once again with 7:35 remaining. In a back-and forth frame, the Chargers would rally for a three-point, 67-64, lead before a Halaby two-pointer cut the deficit to one.
Tara Flynn drained a three from the left side with less than six to play to put Adelphi back in the lead, 69-67.
On the ensuing possession, Jackson hit a pair from the line to give her team a three point lead, and a New Haven turnover led to a Halaby bucket that put the Brown and Gold up five, 73-68. The Panthers would continue to lead until a Brianna Bradford three pulled the visitors within one, 77-76, with less than three minutes to play. A Bria Moore three would put the visitors again in the lead by two, before Mannix tied it with a layup for two once again.

Calli Balfour steal led to a quick bucket for Jackson that put Adelphi in the lead, 81-79 with 1:20 remaining. From there, however, the Panthers were unable to record another point for the remainder of the game, while the Chargers tallied six points over the final minute to come away with the victory.
