North Attleboro, Mass. - For just the second time in school history, the Adelphi University women's basketball program touts the Northeast 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year - this time in
Lauren Beberman - announced by the league office on Wednesday.
In just her third season in a Panther uniform, Beberman led the league in blocked shots (45) and steals (72) ranking among the top-50 across all of NCAA Division II in both categories. Making the start in all 24 games in which she played, the junior spent an average of 29 minutes on the floor and finished the season with 131 rebounds. In 10 different games, Beberman recorded three or more blocks, including four blocks, on four different occasions.
"Lauren has been our anchor on defense all year," commented Head Coach
Sade Jackson. "It is something that she takes pride in and I couldn't be more proud of her."
Beberman joins Emily Miccile (2021-22) as the only other Panther to earn the honor.
In keeping with the defensive theme,
Christina Sanchez joins Beberman has a selection to the NE10 All-Defensive team. At the start of the conference tournament, Sanchez was second in total steals across the league and remains tied for second with 2.5 per contest. The senior saw seven games in her final campaign where she picked up three or more takeaways, including a career-best seven against Saint Michael's College.
Representing Adelphi on the All-Conference teams was newcomer
Victoria Morales, who appears on the Third Team, following the conclusion of her first season with the Panthers. The sophomore ranked first on the team in scoring with 318 points and averaged 12.7 per contest, while playing an average of 30 minutes per game. She played in 25 contests, making the start in 21 and pulled down 4.7 rebounds per game while chipping in 60 assists, and 57 steals.
Adelphi concluded the season at 13-13 overall with an appearance in the conference quarterfinals.
