Albany, N.Y. – In their second meeting this season, the Adelphi University women's basketball team defeated the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights, 84-75 after winning 76-68 earlier this season. This improves the Panthers to 19-5 overall and 13-5 in Northeast-10 play. The Knights fall to 10-15 and 5-14 in league play.
Senior forward
Jessica Kitrys led all players with 33 points, seven rebounds and two steals in the win. Two other Panthers found themselves in double-figures, as
Jenna Halaby and
Calli Balfour each contributed 14 points. Balfour was also responsible for four steals in the victory.
Leading the offense for Saint Rose was Gabie Polce and Staci Barrett, who each accounted for 16 points in the loss. Jess DeNicola and Barrett grabbed seven and six boards, respectively.
Kitrys was the first to strike offensively, putting the Panthers on the board 2-0, on a pass from
Sade Jackson. The Golden Knights were slow to respond as Adelphi jumped out to a 8-2 lead on a layup by
Calli Balfour. Coming off a Saint Rose timeout, Gabie Polce would cut the Panther lead, 8-4.
Adelphi would commit three turnovers before the Knights took advantage and decreased the lead to two at the 15:45 mark. A jumper by Desiree Simmons less than three minutes later would give Saint Rose their first lead of game, 14-13.
A 5-0 run would put the Golden Knights ahead of the Panthers 19-13, with ten minutes to play in the first half. Adelphi would regain the lead on a
Lauren Nuss triple, 21-19, with an assist from
Ifeanyi Ofili.
An 8-2 run in favor of the Brown and Gold would give them a 34-26 lead with under four minutes to play in the half. The first 20 minutes would come to a close with Kitrys at the free throw line, grabbing her own rebound and laying the ball in for a 43-36 lead heading into the locker room.
Coming out of the half, the Golden Knights would commit a 9-4 run to even the score at 47 apiece. Kitrys would break the tie, shooting 2-2 at the charity stripe at the 16:28 mark. A Staci Barrett jumper with 14:54 remaining would give the Black and Gold the lead 51-49.
With 11:56 remaining in the game, Nicole Bini would hit a shot from beyond the arc to give Saint Rose a five-point lead, 60-55. The Panthers called a timeout at the 8:05 mark, after Kitrys grabbed a rebound and laid the ball in to regain the lead, 65-64.
A Balfour layup at the 6:02 mark would give Adelphi the lead once again, after the Golden Knights had ridden ahead to maintain a narrow lead over the Panthers.
Sade Jackson raced past Golden Knight defenders to lay-in a fast break with 3:35 to go and a Panther lead of 74-69.
The game would finish at 84-75, with Balfour going 1-2 at the charity stripe.

Heather Jacobs. "The numbers may not show up on the stat sheet but it was a total team win. Saint Rose is a top notch program- well coached and always play hard."

The Panthers head into the conclusion of regular season on Saturday, February 22 when they host Pace University in the Center for Recreation and Sports at 1:30 p.m. The squad's final home game and senior night will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 25 against the University of New Haven, with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m.
