Women's Basketball Downed by Franklin Pierce Ravens, 97-88

Despite six steals and 33 rebounds, the Panthers suffer their fifth loss of the season.

Rindge, NH – The Adelphi University women's basketball team traveled to Franklin Pierce University for a non-divisional conference contest on Wednesday evening. The Panthers committed 25 personal fouls to the Ravens 15 and were defeated as a result 97-88. The loss drops Adelphi to 14-5 overall, 8-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Ravens improve to 11-7 overall, 8-4 in conference play.

Senior forward Jessica Kitrys led all Panthers with 20 points and grabbed eight boards in the loss. Three other Panthers found themselves with double-figures, as Sade Jackson completed her eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 assists. Jenna Halaby shot 6-9 from the field accounting for 16 points of her own. Tara Flynn shot 50 percent from beyond the arc to contribute 12 points.

Five Ravens reached double-figures as Kara Cherette led all players with 22 points in 31 minutes. The team shot 30-33 from the charity stripe abd 53.6 percent from the field.

The Panthers were first to jump on the board on a quick jumper by Kitrys, assisted by NCAA assists leader Jackson. Before Adelphi had the chance to call a timeout, Franklin Pierce scored six consecutive points with contributions from Brittany Martelle and Charette.

With 13:41 left on the clock, the teams experienced their first tie at 10-10 on a Samantha Milhaven layup. Just a few minutes later, the Brown and Gold would experience a 7-2 run, capped by a Lauren Nuss three-pointer.

The Ravens would continue to catch up to the Panthers and ultimately would surpass them at 6:54,23-22. A Jackson layup just seconds later would anchor the lead that Adelphi would hold through the remainder of the first half.

Kelly Mannix, Calli Balfour, Halaby and Jackson would contribute to the 14-2 run in two minutes to lead Franklin Pierce 38-25 with four minutes to go. A Flynn shot from downtown and Kitrys layup gave Adelphi a 14 point lead, their largest of the half, 47-33.

The Panthers held a lead well into the second half, but the Ravens began chipping away at the lead early. A 13-4 run in favor of the Crimson and Grey would bring the teams to a 57-57 tie with 12:32 left on the clock. Two more tie scores in the half would occur, but the Panthers would be kept out of reach.

The Ravens scored 41 points in the second half alone, nearly half of them coming from the charity stripe, as the Brown and Gold committed 14 personal fouls. The hosts also shot 19-27 (70.4 percent) from the field to Adelphi's 38.5 percent.

Back-to back free throws from Ashley Gomez at 5:22 would decrease the deficit to 3, 77-74 but a jumper by Dyamond Gardner and triple from Martelle would bring the margin back to eight in favor of Franklin Pierce.

Flynn would drain a three with eleven seconds left, but wouldn't be enough to defeat the non-divisional opponent.
