Manchester, NH - The Adelphi University women's basketball team traveled to Sain Anselm College for a Northeast-10 Conference contest Saturday afternoon. The Panthers dropped their second straight game to the Hawks, in their lowest offensive effort this season by a score of 61-55. The loss gives Adelphi a 12-2 overall record and 6-2 in conference play as Saint A's improves to 9-6 and 5-5 in the NE-10.
Three Panthers had points in double digits, with senior
Jessica Kitrys leading the pack with 16 points.
Sade Jackson completed her eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds while
Jenna Halaby contributed 12 points and grabbed five steals in the loss.
For St. A's, Briana Jones and Tori Lehr each chipped in 16 points in the victory. Lehr also grabbed 13 boards as Jones shot 6-8 from the charity stripe. Megan Morrissey reached double-digits, shooting 5-12 from the field for an 11 point performance.
A Halaby lay-in would bring Adelphi within one of the Hawks at 13-12, when the home team would jump-start a 14-2 run – powered by eight points from Lehr – to open up a 27-14 lead with 7:42 remaining in the opening half. Following a St. Anselm timeout,
Lauren Nuss would be the first to score in an attempt to bring the game back in order for the Brown and Gold.
Shooting just 9-35 from the field, Adelphi would head into the locker room down 17 with the Blue and white leading 37-20. The Hawks shot exactly 50 percent from the field (17-34), with leading score Jones already accounting for 12 of their 37 points.
Morrissey opened the second half with a layup that pushed the lead to 19 points just 1:05 in, but the Panthers responded with a 27-6 barrage that gave them a 47-45 lead with 8:57 to play. Jackson contributed nine points during the stretch, while
Jenna Halaby added eight.
Adelphi and Saint Anselm would experience three more ties and five lead changes in the last eight minutes of the game. Jones would seal the deal for the Hawks making three consecutive free throws and capping the final score at 61-55.
