West Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team felt the wrath of a 57-point second half explosion by the University of New Haven Chargers, who defeated the Panthers 86-75 in Northeast-10 Conference action at Charger Gymnasium on Wednesday. Adelphi slips to 10-10 overall and 7-9 in NE-10 play, while New Haven improves to 9-11 overall and 8-8 in the conference.

Junior Sade Jackson collected five assists to tie Adelphi's single-season record with 158 assists, set by Jeanne Miller during the 1989-90 season. Jackson also led the Panthers with 19 points and made 9-10 free throws in the setback. Jessica Kitrys scored 15 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Kelly Mannix scored 12 points on four 3-pointers and Jenna Halaby chipped in 10 points and snagged four steals.

For the Chargers, Anh-Dao Tran poured in 23 points, 20 of which came in the second half and 14 of which came from the foul line. Briana Bradford tallied 15 points, Aquillin Hayes recorded a double double with 13 points and 11 boards, and Lauren Hebert dropped in 13 points as well. New Haven made staggering 28 of 37 free throws, including 25 in the second half which proved to be the difference down the stretch.

The Panthers built a large lead early and jumped out to a 13 point advantage by the seventh minute. That lead grew as large as 15 points with 5:28 to play, but the Chargers whittled the deficit to single digits late in the half thanks to an 11-4 run.

New Haven quickly turned the tides in the second half and scored seven unanswered points to tie the game at 38-38 in the first two minutes of action. The Chargers had answers for every Adelphi attempt to regain a sizeable lead and seized the lead for good on a Moore 3-pointer at the 13:40 mark. Tran then proceeded to swish 14 free throws, all in a row and 12 in the final 2:26.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday and Jackson will look to break Adelphi's single season assist record when the Panthers host American International College in NE-10 action at 1:30 p.m.
