Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team earned its 10th Northeast-10 Conference win of the season with a 65-57 overtime win at Pace University on Wednesday. Junior
Sade Jackson delt out seven assists to break the Adelphi career assists record of 402 set by Jen Bille in 1994 and help the Panthers improve to 13-11 overall and 10-10 in NE-10 play. The Setters fall to 13-11 overall and 11-9 in league action.
With the win, the Panthers move into a tie for eighth place with American International College in the NE-10 standings. Adelphi owns the tiebreaker with a pair of regular season wins over the Yellow Jackets, which puts the Panthers in contention for a playoff spot.
Jessica Kitrys posted her fifth double-double of the season and her second 30-point performance in four games with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman
Tara Flynn scored 12 points and sank a trio of 3-pointers, while Jackson added seven points and six rebounds to her record-breaking assist effort.
For Pace, Brittany Shields also registered a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Jessica Scannell and Margo Hackett poured in 15 and 11 points, respectively.
After a tightly-contested first half, the Setters charged out to an 11-point lead within the first four minutes after halftime. The Panthers rallied back, however, and erased the double-digit deficit to take their first lead of the second half on a Kitrys jumper at 8:31. Adelphi would jump ahead by as many as seven points, but a Hackett layup with 29 second left tied the game at 55-55 and forced overtime.
The Panthers locked down on the defensve end and held Pace without a field goal during overtime. A pair of Shield free throws proved the only Setter points of the period, allowing a Kitrys layup-and-one three-point play to put Adelphi ahead for good.
Adelphi hosts Le Moyne College in Saturday's regular season finale at 3:30 p.m.
