Season-High 24 Points for Mannix, Lifts Women's Hoops Over New Haven, 84-81

Sade Jackson collected her fourth double-double this season with 18 points and 10 assists against New Haven.

West Haven, CT – The Adelphi University women's basketball team traveled to West Haven Saturday afternoon to face Northeast-10 Conference opponent University of New Haven. The Panthers were able to pull off their eighth straight win, 84-81 as the game came down to the last seconds. With the victory the Brown and Gold improve to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Chargers fall to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the NE-10.

Kelly Mannix led all players with a season-high 24 points, going 6-9 from beyond the arc while Sade Jackson collected another double-double, registering 18 points and 10 assists. Tara Flynn shot 50 percent from downtown and had 11 points in the win.

The first half remained back and forth, as the Blue and White led by no more than seven points at the most. The score was tied at five different times and resulted in eight lead changes between the two teams.

After missing five three point attempts, Flynn drained one from beyond the arc on a pass from Jenna Halaby to bring the Panthers within four of the Chargers, 47-43. Heading into the locker room, Kelly Mannix led the team with 14 points, going 4-5 from behind the arc. Jackson picked up six assists and seven points of her own.

The second half started with a Jackson to Jessica Kitrys combo, putingt the Panthers up on the Chargers 52-51, A turnover by New Haven and steal by Mannix would result in a 54-51 score and another two points for Mannix. Jackson found Kitrys again, giving Adelphi a six-point run within the first four minutes of the half.

Head Coach Ty Grace of the Chargers called a timeout with ten minutes remaining in the game as Flynn hit another three-pointer to make the score 67-59. This was the largest lead for either team. The Chargers would go on an eight point run to even the score at 69, with under five minutes left. Adelphi was quick to answer with back-to-back layups by Jackson and Mannix to pull ahead 75-69.

The Panthers were able to produce 15 points on turnovers in the second half alone. Back-to-back free throws from Calli Balfour (6-8 from the free throw line) with 14 seconds in the game would seal the deal for the Panthers as they earned their eighth consecutive win, 84-81.
