Wilmington, DE – The Adelphi University women's basketball team improved to a stellar 9-0 after defeating non-conference opponent Goldey-Beacom College, 73-64. The Lightning fall to 5-4 overall and remain at 2-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Samantha Milhaven matched her career-best with a team-high 17 points in 24 minutes of play while senior
Jessica Kitrys contributed 16 points and three rebounds of her own. Junior
Kelly Mannix tallied 11 points with seven rebounds while sophomore
Lauren Nuss came off the bench to add 10 points.
A three-pointer by Mannix gave the Panthers an 11 point lead just seven minutes into the game, 17-6. The Lightning held its smallest deficit at 17-11, on a layup by Jasmyne Lewis. Adelphi used an 11-2 run to extend the advantage to 28-13 with 9:26 remaining on a three-point field goal by Milhaven. The Brown and Gold pulled away to a 24 point lead, 51-27 on back-to-back free throws from
Tara Flynn going into halftime.
With the Panthers leading by a 58-34 margin with 14:32 remaining in regulation, the Lightning used a 21-8 spurt over the next 11 minutes to trim the deficit to 66-55. After the Panthers upped their lead to 71-56 by scoring five of the next six points, Goldey-Beacom narrowed the margin to 73-64 by scoring 9 of the next 13 points, but the Lightning were unable to get any closer.
Milhaven, who was one of four Adelphi players to score in double figures, made six of seven shots from the floor, including a five-for-six performance from three-point range.

"Goldey-Beacom played hard tonight," stated Head Coach
Heather Jacobs. "We will look to build off our solid 20 minutes and put a whole 40 minute game together".

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, December 14 in a non-conference contest against Holy Family University at 1:00 p.m. They will resume play in 2014 on January 2 as they travel to Pace University to take on the Setters at 4:00 p.m.
