Manchester, NH – Earlier this afternoon, the women's basketball team took on the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup. The Panthers got off to a sluggish start and despite picking up the pace in the second, found themselves in too deep of a hole to climb out of and dropped their fifth straight game by a score of 56-76. With the loss, Adelphi moves to 9-8, 6-7 NE-10 while SNHU mirrors that at 9-8, 6-7 NE-10.

The trio of Sade Jackson, Kelly Mannix and Jessica Kitrys combined to score 45 of Adelphi's 56 points and sunk 18 of the Panther's 22 field goals. Mannix posted 16 points, 12 of which came from behind the arc while Kitrys chipped in with 15 points. Jackson pulled down six boards to go along with her 14 points and five steals.

For SNHU, Michelle DeRoma led all scorers with a game high 21 points on 8-16 shooting from the field with teammate Sloane Sorrell chipping in with 16 points and pulling down six misses. Kelly Chergey, in just 11 minutes of action, was 4-4 from the floor and sunk 6-7 from the charity stripe for a 14 point performance. Brooke Springfield made her presence felt inside with a game high of 11 boards.

The Panthers struggled early on missing their first five attempts from the floor in the opening 5:49 and quickly fell behind 8-0. Kitrys finally broke the silence with her first, and the team's first bucket of the game at the 14:09 mark. However, they were hampered by missing 25 of 33 attempts from the floor (.242) and posted just 19 first half points. Meanwhile, the hosts were on point, knocking down 13-28 from the field for 34 points and sending the game into the locker room at halftime with a 15 point differential.

Two made free throws by Mannix on the opening possessions cut the lead to 13, but the Penmen responded with seven unanswered points; the first five of which came off the hands of Sorrell and was capped by two foul shots by Loretta Rocha to extend the gap to 20.

Jackson's triple at the 13:34 mark pulled Adelphi to within 11 points but it would be as close as they would get. Southern New Hampshire's lead ballooned to as much as 23 points over the course of the final minutes thanks to an impressive .696 shooting percentage from the floor and would seal the deal by way of a 76-56 score.

The Panthers look to get back on track and snap the five game skid on Tuesday, January 29 when they travel up to Lowell, Massachusetts for an NE-10 Conference contest against the Riverhawks of UMass Lowell. Tipoff is scheduled for a 5:30pm start.
