Garden City, N.Y – The Adelphi University women's basketball team fought back to tie the game with 10 seconds left in regulation but would fall in overtime to the visiting Ravens of Franklin Pierce University, 73-71, on Saturday afternoon at the Center for Recreation and Sports. The Panthers drop their third straight and fall to 9-6 overall and 6-5 in the Northeast-10, while the Ravens improve to 11-4 overall and 8-4 in the conference.

Jessica Kitrys and Sade Jackson combined to score 48 of Adelphi's 71 points. Kitrys posted 26 points on 13-18 shooting and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, while Jackson went for 22 points and dished out seven assists. Kelly Mannix also finished in double figures with 10 points and pulled down eight boards.

For the Ravens, Tiffany Johnson dropped down 25 points, Kara Charette added 16 and Brittany Martelle added 15.
A 6-0 run early in the first half would give the visitors an 8-4 lead, and they would lead by six, 14-8, with 13:51 to go, but a three-point play from Jackson and three-point jumper  from Shannon Flynn would tie the game at 14-14 at 12:02. Furious scoring led to numerous ties and lead changes over the next five minutes of action, but the Ravens would push their to lead to five, 27-22, behind a three from Johnson at 5:17.

Adelphi would take a 31-30 lead, their first since 10:35, behind a layup from Jackson at the 2:45 mark but two costly turnovers in the final 1:12 would lead to five points for the Ravens and a 35-31 lead. However, Jackson would hit a trey from well behind the arc with 10 seconds left to send the Panthers into halftime down by one, 35-34.

The Panthers would outscore the Ravens 9-4 over the first five minutes of the second half to take a 43-39 lead, but the Ravens answered back with two quick buckets out of a timeout to knot the action at 43-43.

A three from Mannix put the Brown and Gold back in front, 51-49, with just over 10 minutes to go. The Ravens would go on a 7-0 run to lead, 56-51, but another three from Mannix pulled the hosts back within two, 56-54, with 7:50 remaining.
The Ravens bumped their lead back to five behind a three from Martelle, but the Panthers pulled within one, 59-58, on a Kitrys layup. A layup from Mannix would put the Panthers up 60-59 with 3:12 to go, but the Ravens retook the lead, 62-60, just 12 seconds later behind another three from Johnson.

A long half court possession left the Panthers scrambling for a shot, and Kitrys rolled in a layup as the shot clock expired to tie the score, 62-62, with 1:29 to go. Johnson would answer yet again and buried a jumper just 12 seconds later to pull Franklin Pierce ahead, 64-62.

Kitrys would again beat two defenders to hook in the equalizer with 14 seconds to go and the Ravens could not get a shot off in response, sending the game to overtime.

Kitrys found the hoop again just 17 seconds into the overtime period to put the Brown and Gold up 66-64, but Martelle responded with another three-pointer and Johnson would net two free throws to put the visitors in the lead, 69-66.
Jackson drove to the basket, drew a foul and netted two free throws to pull the Brown and Gold within one, 69-68. The Ravens would take a five-point lead behind a bucket from Johnson and a fast-break layup from Kara Charette to lead 73-68 but Jackson stepped up and drained a clutch three-pointer from the top of the key to cut the deficit to 73-71 with just 49 seconds left on the clock.

The Ravens got a pair of chances thanks to a key offensive rebound by McDonald on the following possession, but Mannix came down with the defensive board after a missed layup to give Adelphi one last chance with nine seconds to play.

However, under pressure from the defenders coming out of a timeout, Jackson was unable to get a clear look at the basket and her last-second three-pointer for the win fell short.

The Panthers return to action this Wednesday, January 23, when they will host Bentley University, the country's second-ranked squad, at the Center for Recreation and Sports. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
