The first game was all Adelphi, as the Panthers raced out to a 7-2 lead and never looked back, picking up a 25-14 win to go up, 1-0. Things started out tighter in game two and the score was deadlocked at seven. But, a
Colleen Raga kill sparked the Brown and Gold offense, which doubled up the Lions, out scoring Molloy 18-9 the rest of the way to pick up a 25-16 win.
The third game was tight through out and Adelphi took a six point lead, 15-9 on an
Ajsha Mekulovic service ace. The Panthers would continue to lead, holding a five point lead late in the game, 21-16 thanks to a Dorko attack, but Molloy closed the game with a 9-2 flurry that gave the Lions life and cut the Adelphi lead to one game, 2-1. The fourth game was back and forth and saw the score knotted at 17 when a DeStefano hammer sent the Panthers on a 8-4 run that was capped by an
Alexandra Kahen kill, giving Adelphi the game and match, 25-21.
Adelphi vs. LIU-Post
Raga was the lone Panther with double figure kills against the Pioneers, registering 10, while both Blunt and Dorko chipped in eight and DeStefano had seven. Bryson again led all players in assists with 30 and added 12 digs for her second double-double, while Hernandez recorded a game-high 19 digs.
A quick 6-0 spurt turned a seven all game into a 13-7 Adelphi lead courtesy of two Pioneer miscues and four Adelphi kills, two by Dorko. LIU-Post would get to within two at 17-15, but no closer, thanks to a 8-4 run that would give the Panthers a 25-19 victory. The second game saw 14 ties, the final coming at 18, when Blunt put down a ball that would send the Brown and Gold on a 7-3 tear, that would see the game end with the Panthers on top 25-21.
The host Pioneers stormed out of the intermission in the third game, taking an early 5-1 lead that would dissipate courtesy of a 5-1 Adelphi run that tied the game at six on a
Samantha Breidenbach kill. The Panther bulge would get to as many as five and was down to just one, 16-15 when a 7-1 run would put Adelphi ahead comfortably by seven, 23-16, all but securing the 25-20 win that was to come.
Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, September 20 when they travel to Queens College for a 7:00 pm meeting with the former East Coast Conference rival.
