Garden City, N.Y.- Opening up the 2026 slate, the Adelphi University volleyball team welcomed two top-10 giants into the Center for Recreation and Sport on Friday, ultimately dropping a pair once the day was through.
Game 1: #2 Tampa 3, Adelphi 0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-12)
- Adelphi fell flat in the opener as the offense hit negative in two of the three sets, resulting in a negative percentage for the match overall. Madeleine Chaapel put up a team-leading eight kills while Ana Carolina Westerich notched nine assists. Coming off a season-ending injury a year ago, Lola Clayton contributed seven assists in her first outing.
- Tampa really capitalized on the Panthers miscues, as they accounted for 23 on offense and totaled 10 service errors.
- The teams were comparable at the net as far as defense goes, the Spartans holding a one-block edge, 6-5.
Game 2: #9 Wayne State 3, Adelphi 0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-15)
- Wayne State entered the contest 1-0 after defeating the #2 Spartans in their first game of the season.
- The Wildcats hit over .400 in the fist two sets, committing a single error with 12 kills apiece as a team, while Adelphi never hit over .350 for the match.
- Chaapel led the Panthers with nine kills and newcomer Isabella Assaley capped the afternoon with 17 assists.
- The blocking from Wayne State saw them finish with a 9-1 advantage overall, which proved to be the difference maker alongside attack errors as Adelphi committed 20 to the Wildcats' six.
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow when they host Georgian Court and American International College on day two of the Paws Up Classic.
