Pueblo, CO - Day two of the Royce Cappis Volleyball Tournament proved to be exciting as Head Coach
Danielle MacKnight capped the weekend of action with her 400th career victory for Adelphi, as she enters her 20th season at the helm.
Game 1: Minnesota Duluth 3, Adelphi 0
- Adelphi dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 6 Minnesota Duluth Saturday morning at Massari Arena, with the Bulldogs taking the match, 26-24, 25-8, 25-18.
- The Panthers battled through a tightly contested opening set, leading late before Minnesota Duluth rallied to claim the frame, 26-24.
- Madeleine Chaapel paced Adelphi with seven kills, while Morgan Meyer added five kills and Elena Covic contributed three.
- Maya Meyers led the Panthers at the net with three blocks, while Covic and Abby Franco each added two blocks.
- Katie Brokes recorded both of Adelphi's service aces, while Ada Isik led the defensive effort with four digs.
- Adelphi finished with 23 kills, 20 assists, five blocks and 22 digs in the match, while Minnesota Duluth hit .311 as a team with 46 kills.
Game 2: Adelphi 3, CSU Pueblo 2
- The Panthers (2-6) rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat host CSU Pueblo, 3-2, Saturday afternoon, earning its second victory of the season.
- After falling behind 2-0 (25-19 and 25-11), the stage was set for a dramatic comeback, earning the third 27-25, and fourth set, 25-23.
- Adelphi completed the reverse sweep in the decisive fifth set, using a 15-13 victory to secure the thrilling five-set triumph, and ulitmately delivering MacKnight's 400th career victory.
- Meyer delivered a career-best offensive performance with 22 kills, hitting .333 on 48 attacks while adding six assists and two digs.
- Ana Carolina Westerich orchestrated the Panthers' attack with 36 assists, while Isik led the defensive effort with 17 digs and Melana Bigelow contributed eight kills and seven digs.
- Adelphi finished with 62 kills, 49 assists and 56 digs, including 16 kills in both the third and fourth sets, overcoming CSU Pueblo's 13 blocks to complete the comeback.
Adelphi will head back to the east coast and trip to Philadelphia for the Wildcat Regional Invitational, hosted by Wilmington University (Del.) next weekend.
