Pueblo, CO - After suffering a five-set defeat, the Adelphi University volleyball program fell in straight sets on day one of the Royce Cappis Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Colorado State Pueblo.
Game 1: Florida Tech 3, Adelphi 2
- The Panthers rallied from an early 2-0 deficit, claiming the third and fourth sets to force a decisive fifth frame.
- Madeleine Chaapel led Adelphi offensively with 18 kills, while adding four service aces and two blocks.
- Elena Covic and Abby Franco each contributed 11 kills, with Covic adding five total blocks and Franco recording a pair of her own.
- Ana Carolina Westerich orchestrated the Adelphi attack with 24 assists and added four aces, while Ada Isik paced the defensive effort with 25 digs.
- As a team, Adelphi collected 55 kills, 12 aces, nine blocks and 72 digs, nearly matching Florida Tech in total points (76-78) in a tightly contested match.
Game 2: Fort Lewis 3, Adelphi 0
- The Panthers battled throughout the opening two sets, staying within striking distance before Fort Lewis closed out each frame.
- Morgan Meyer paced Adelphi with nine kills, hitting .250 on 24 attacks while adding two blocks, and three digs.
- Isabella Assaley registered 19 assists to pace the Panthers' offense, while Ada Isik posted a team-high 13 digs.
- Adelphi's defense produced five total blocks, with Mackenzie Casey, Gretchen Brady and Meyer each recording two block assists.
- The Panthers finished the match with 26 kills, 24 assists, three service aces and 41 digs, while Fort Lewis recorded 36 kills and hit .163 as a team.
Adelphi has a tight turnaround and will take on Minnesota Duluth in the morning, before taking on the hosting Thunderwolves in the afternoon.
