Box Score Albany, N.Y. - The women's basketball team traveled upstate to Albany, N.Y. to take on the Golden Knights of St. Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Panthers found themselves down by seven at the half, but unfortunately, went cold in the second, shooting just .227 from the field. Unable to close the gap, St. Rose would come away with the 75-53 win. With the loss, Adelphi slips to 8-14, 6-12 NE-10 while the Golden Knights advance to 15-7, 12-6 NE-10.
Jessica Kitrys led the panthers with a stellar effort that included tying her career high of 22 points on 8-14 shooting from the field and going a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe while setting a new career best with 16 rebounds.
Sade Jackson was the only other Panther to hit the double digit scoring mark as she posted 12 points to go along with her four boards.
Brenna Gonsalves did her part, chipping in with six points and grabbing five rebounds on the night. As a team, Adelphi performed well from the free throw line, sinking 15-18 attempts.
For the Golden Knights Gabie Polce had five assists and led all comers with 23 points on 6-7 shooting from behind the arc while teammate Ashley Rath had 16 points. Alison McGrath added 10 points and pulled down nine boards with Ali Johnson tallying seven points and 11 rebounds.
St. Rose opened the first five minutes of the game with a 10-4 run, but courtesy of eight points by Kitrys and a bucket by
Jenna Halaby, the Panthers kept within striking distance making it a three point game at the 13:52 mark.
Over the ensuing two and a half minutes, Adelphi fired back with an 11-2 run of their own sparked by a Gonsalves jumper, followed up by a made three ball by
Amanda Campusano, and capped with two foul shots by Jackson.
However, the lead was short lived. In the final nine minutes of the half, Adelphi would pull within a point of the hosts on four different occasions until a last second trey by Adrianna Gaeta with time expiring, sent the game into halftime with the scoreboard reading 41-34 in favor of St. Rose.
The Panthers hung tough through the first six minutes of the second frame, keeping within just two buckets length of their counterparts, but things turned sour as Adelphi struggled to knock down shots from the floor. Kitrys accounted for four of her team's five second half field goals with the only other made bucket coming off the fingers of Gonsalves.
Adelphi's 19 second half points was not enough to compete with St. Rose's 34. The deficit would grow to as much as 22 with the final buzzer sounding in favor of the Golden Knights.
