Box Score
Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore
Sade Jackson delivered a clutch buzzer-beating, game-winning basket for the second time this season, draining a 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left to lift the Panthers over Le Moyne, 65-64, at Ted Grant Court on Saturday. Adelphi improves to 9-16 overall and 7-14 in Northeast-10 Conference play, and Le Moyne drops to 7-18 and 4-17 in the league.
Freshman
Kelly Mannix shattered her previous career-high with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 shooting from behind the arc, and classmate
Brenna Gonsalves tied her career-best with 13 points to go with six rebounds. Jackson totaled 12 points and nine assists, and deposited her second game-winner of the year, conjuring memories of her last-second layup that vaulted Adelphi past Saint Michael's 60-58 on January 7. Senior
Amanda Campusano recorded 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and drained two 3-pointers, while freshman
Jenna Halaby tied Mannix with a team-best eight rebounds.
For the Dolphins, Morgan Rowland poured in 16 points, and Katie Hart earned a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Le Moyne struggled from the field, making just 23-of-72 shots for a 31.9 field goal percentage on the day.
Le Moyne maintained control of the game for the majority of the first half, falling behind briefly at the 15 minute mark but regrouping to produce a 32-23 lead at the half. The Dolphins opened the contest on a 5-1 run and held Adelphi without a field goal until 17:42 when Mannix drilled a 3-pointer. Gonsalves swished a trey on the next possession to shift the lead to the visitors, allowing Adelphi to assemble an 8-3 streak into the sixth minute of play.
The Dolphins hit their stride midway through the half and worked a 12-5 run the rest of the frame. The hosts held Adelphi scoreless for nearly five minutes, and a pair of layups by
Ashley O'Connell and
Alexis Williams would be the Panthers' only baskets in the last 9:46 of the half.
Adelphi fought to erase the deficit well into the second half, but Le Moyne clung tight to a single-digit advantage all the way until the final seconds. Campusano, Jackson and Gonsalves all hit buckets to make it a one-possession game at various points, and Mannix swished a 3-pointer at the midway point to make it 42-41 in favor of Le Moyne. The Dolphins stretched their lead to as many as nine points at the 4:28 mark, but the Panthers closed the gap via the long range shot again, this time from Campusano with 14 seconds to go.
With 12 seconds left and the ball in Le Moyne's possession, the Panthers were forced to foul, and Maddy McKnight made one of two free throws to bring the score to 64-62. With one last possession to decide the game, Campusano found Jackson behind the arc in the right corner, and Jackson promptly buried the game-winning 3-pointer just before time expired.
The Panthers are in position to win 10 games for the first time since the 2008-09 season when they host Southern Connecticut State in their final regular season game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
