Box Score
Syracuse, N.Y. - A last-second three-pointer by Le Moyne's Alex Marple forced overtime and the Dolphins held the Adelphi University women's basketball team to just two points in the extra period to defeat the Panthers 74-66 in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday. The dramatic victory lifts Le Moyne to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in NE-10 play, while Adelphi shifts to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the league.
Sade Jackson turned in a career-high 24 points on 9-19 shooting to lead all scorers, and
Jessica Kitrys recorded her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Kelly Mannix was held to a season-low nine points on a trio of three-pointers but tied her season-high with 11 boards.
For the hosts, Marple led the way with 19 points, including a buzzer-beating fall-away three-pointer from the right wing to send the game into overtime. Maggie Brown and Emily Greer joined Marple in double-figures, as Brown scored 18 points on 8-11 shooting and Greer chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Cold shooting and 25 total turnovers would hurt the Panthers in the long run. Despite shooting 35 percent from behind the arc prior to today's contest, Adelphi connected on just 6-29 three-pointers and missed all 10 field goal attempts in overtime, allowing Le Moyne to assemble a come-from-behind victory.
Adelphi built a lead as large as 15 points in the first half, but the Dolphins used a 10-3 run in the final six minutes to make it a 39-31 game at the half. The Panthers came out of the half and extended their lead to double-digits again, working a 15-point advantage on a Jackson jumper with 10:06 left in regulation.
Le Moyne then went on a 19-4 surge into the final minute, tying the game at 61-61 on a pair of Marple free throws with 59 seconds remaining. On the next possession, Jackson let loose with a three and missed the mark, but
Shannon Flynn pulled down a crucial offensive rebound. After possessing the ball for 30 seconds,
Lauren Nuss swung the ball back to Jackson, who nailed the go-ahead trey from the top of the key to give the Panthers a 64-61 lead with just eight seconds to go.
Marple would not be outdone, however, and with just six ticks left exiting a time out, swished the tying three-pointer as time expired.
The Dolphins seized complete control in overtime and took advantage of rusty Panther shooting. Le Moyne went 3-7 from the floor and made 4-6 free throws, while Adelphi scored just two points on a pair of Jackson freebies. Adelphi was forced to foul in the final minutes, but Greer and Marple each went 1-2 from the line to put the game out of reach.
The Panthers return to action on Friday when they host Concordia College in a non-conference contest at 5:30 p.m.
