Manchester, N.H. – The Adelphi University women's basketball team went down to the wire against Saint Anselm, losing 46-45 in Northeast-10 Conference action at Stoutenburgh Gym on Saturday after a last-second 3-pointer missed the mark. The Panthers, losers of six straight games, now sit at 6-13 overall and 4-11 in NE-10 play, while the Hawks are 12-9 overall and 6-9 in league competition.

For Adelphi, Jessica Kitrys led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting with seven rebounds. Kelly Mannix recorded eight points and seven rebounds and connected on all four free throw attempts. The Panthers struggled with long-range shooting, sinking just 3-of-21 3-point attempts.

Saint Anselm received a 16-point performance from Tori Lehr who sank 8-of-10 field goal tries. The Hawks outrebounded Adelphi 40-24 and managed to hold on for the win despite committing 21 turnovers.

The squads squared off in a defensive-minded first half, battling to a 9-9 tie through 10 minutes of play capitalized by a Brenna Gonsalves 3-pointer. The Panthers worked their biggest lead of the half at the 6:57 mark, taking a 16-9 advantage on a Campusano trey, but the hosts slowly crept back into contention and managed to tie the game at 23-all heading into halftime.

The Panthers held a narrow lead into the final 10 minutes of play, but the Hawks snuck back into the driver's seat with an Ashley Viselli 3-pointer. Saint Anselm never relinqiushed the lead after that, and kept Adelphi at bay despite not scoring a field goal for the final three minutes. A pair of Kitrys free throws with 22 seconds left made it a 46-45 game, and Adelphi regained possession after a missed Saint Anselm free throw. After a quick timeout, the Panthers set up for one final attempt, but Mannix's 3-pointer with a second to go did not connect, allowing the Hawks to escape with a narrow win.

The Panthers return to action when they host the University of New Haven for an NE-10 showdown on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
