Pleasantville, N.Y. -
The Adelphi University women's basketball team saw its losing streak reach four games with a 70-59 loss against Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Tuesday. After trailing early in the first half, the Panthers cut the Setters' lead to three points on four separate occassions in the second half but could not outrun the hosts.

For Adelphi, sophomore Jessica Kitrys registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, posting double figures for the fourth game in a row and the sixth time in seven games. Sade Jackson dropped in 10 points and added five rebounds and four steals, and Shannon Flynn hit a trifecta of 3-pointers for the second game in a row to finish with nine points.

For Pace, Brittany Shields led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds, and Kerry White drained five 3-pointers on her way to 19 points on the night. The Setters won despite shooting 37.9 percent from the field compared to Adelphi's 40.4, but out-rebounded the Panthers by a 46 to 35 margin.

The Panthers fell behind early as the Setters opened up an 11-2 lead in the first three minutes, but a swift 6-0 run powered by Kitrys and Jackson got Adelphi back in the game. Pace answered right back with a 9-0 run of its own and held a comfortable lead throughout the rest of the half, sans a Flynn 3-pointer with 2:36 to go that cut Pace's cushion to four points. When the first half buzzer sounded, the Setters stood in front by a score of 36-29.

Adelphi remained persistent in the second half, constantly nipping at the Setters' heels but never able to claim the lead. It looked as if the momentum would shift in the Panthers' favor when Jackson converted a steal into a layup and Kitrys knocked down 1-of-2 free throws to make it 40-38 just over four minutes into the half, but Pace would never let Adelphi get closer than three points the rest of the way. Jackson laid in Adelphi's final bucket with 38 seconds to go, but Pace's Carol Johnson scored five points in the final minute to stretch the Setter lead to what would be a final score of 70-59.

With the loss, the Panthers drop to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in NE-10 play. Pace now stands at 6-1 and 5-1 in league action. Adelphi begins its three game homestand with an NE-10 contest against Le Moyne on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
